With a nod to classic soul and funk as well as grooves from the current decade the Funktronics have delighted audiences of all ages and races throughout the DMV. Be it at a live music venue, or a private party the band will always find ways to get folks on the dance floor.
Featuring Harmonee Abraham on vocals, Joe Anderson on sax, Steve Benson on guitar, John Yuan on Keys+samples, Nima Ghovanlu on Bass and Kenny Powell on Drums the group brings a sound and energy that you won't find anywhere else.
Much in the vein of Cory Henry, the group enjoys taking funk and jazz tunes from the past and giving their current spin on them. Or sometimes, a classic reinterpretation of a modern hit works as well.
Veterans of just about every area of music in the District the group have over 40 combined years of playing in clubs such as Blues Alley, Twins, Meze, Chief Ikes, IOTA, Bayou, and the Velvet Lounge (among other spots). Playing with or opening for such greats as Gil Scott Heron, Jean Carne, Gerald Heyman, Jimmy Ponder, and Spyro Gyra they are no strangers to playing great music and have been playing actively all across the DMV for the past 10 years.
Since the Pandemic the Funktronics have had gigs everywhere from breweries in NoVa to bars in Adams Morgan and live music venues all throughout Maryland. Past residencies included Bourbon Boulevard in Chantilly, Va; Bossa in DC; and Bump n' Grind in Silver Spring. Currently the Funktronics have a Spring/Summer residency with monthly outdoor gigs at the outdoor Spectrum Stage in Barking Mad Cafe in Gaithersburg.
